Cool Sites and If You Ever See a Lepracaun…

1) Google Translate-
My parents live in Asia and usually I just e-mail them in English, but because of google translate, it automatically translates the English into Korean for me! This is great because my Korean writing skills are pretty bad, especially since I no longer attend Korean school on Saturday mornings.
My dad was pretty impressed, but then I had to confess that it was Google, and not me, that actually wrote the text. He was like, “Oh.”

2) Musicshake- I met these guys at the twisstup even on Thursday and thought the concept was so cool and awesome. You basically get access to a ton of hip hop beats, melodies and rock songs, and can record your vocals over the music. Then you buy it for 99 cents. They’re backed by companies from Korea and here, in the states. I love the concept and think it will really catch on. Good luck guys!

3) Drew’s Script-O-rama- You can get a ton of scripts here, whether in PDF format or Word, or non-formatted. It’s a great resource and I come visit this site regularly for all the content.

Matt and I started off yesterday’s workday with some Starbucks and of course, some conversation about Lepracaun sightings in Mobile, Alabama.

Here is the youtube video of a real newscast that warned of Lepracaun sightings… and can I just say, “Where the gold at?”
haha…

America’s Best Dance Crew…can anyone beat the Jabbawockeez?

My brother and his girlfriend got me into this breakdancing world, especially with the crazy moves and antics on MTV’s “America’s Best Dance Crew.”

We watched the Live audition show and there was some talent there, but the judges, Shayne, Lil Mama, and JC Chasez were a lot harsher because you know, its second season.

Jabbawockeez are sick, using masks, telling the audiences to look at their moves and their skills, not their faces. Check out their “Apologize” performance.

Some Kick-Arse Websites…

Yes, I’m one of many who can probably type, talk, listen to music, read an online article and respond to e-mails, simultaneously. ADD, probably.
Here are some awesome websites that I usually check out on a daily basis.

Stereogum- You guys probably know this site. Informative, cheeky and very popular indie music blog.

GeekSugar- Full of Tech advice for Geek girls and also, you can check out the other sister sites to get your daily gossip fix.

The Sixty One- I found out about this from Ploomy, but I’m officially hooked. You can make your own playlist and check out a ton of new artists. I’m in love.

Zen Habits- This guy’s blog makes me feel really calm and he always has great, positive advice.

Online versions of News outlets- I’m a news junkie. A girl’s gotta stay informed.

BTW, if any of you have cool websites to recommend, please let me know.

PEACE

A Family Portrait… Saturday at the Promenade

Hope all of you had a good weekend and thought you might enjoy some pics of my family.
My father whom I haven’t seen in a eon and half visited my brother and I this weekend, so we did all the LA things, you know… go to the 3rd Street Promenade, drive to K-town, watch a flick at a cool multiplex, and of course, I forced my bro and Dad to take pictures in those cheesy picture booths on the Pier.

Check out these pics of an Eastern European trapeze artist and his son, who were performing at the Promenade. I was in awe of this father and son b/c they were doing their balance routine for more than an hour. Wow. Those pants are bright blue. (That’s what I was thinking anyway)

Intellectual Snobs, J.K. Rowling, and Commencement

I was listening to NPR this morning in my car in between my personal obsessions with Big Boi on Power 106, and an old Lauryn Hill CD. Gotta love Lauryn.
Anyway, there was a story about J.K. Rowling’s speech at this year’s Harvard commencement, and the tagline of the story was about Harvard kids who weren’t happy that she was chosen to be their speaker.

One kid said, “We’re HARVARD kids…I mean, we should’ve had someone like Bill Gates or the United Nations Secretary-General. J.K. Rowling? I mean, again, this is Harvard.”
Can you believe him? I mean, yes, you’re a Harvard grad, but does that mean that you’re really better than a woman who has gone through poverty and emerged to create a multi-billion dollar franchise, and more importantly has inspired children to use their imagination and get excited to READ?!

Ugh. Sorry, I’m usually way more positive, but I can’t stand snobby people. Intellectual snobs are the worst. I try to avoid them at parties. :) Here is a snippet of the best part of her speech and below are my personal favorite quotes from Ms. Rowling.

“We do not need magic to transform our world. We carry all the power we need inside ourselves already; we have the power to imagine better.”

“Failure was the stripping away of the unessential. I stopped pretending to see myself by anything other than what I was.”

“Imagination gives one the ability to empathise with others”

“You will never truly know yourself, or the strength of your relationships, until both have been tested by adversity.”

Sex and the City…NYC…and why Breakfast Food Rocks

haha… so I wonder if the 4 readers (whom I love and adore) of this blog wonder if I have the randomest blog postings ever. I try to find more technology-related things to write about, but a lot of times, my mind veers to a different place.

So.. I’m writing about the Sex and the City Movie, and how I actually wasn’t shocked that it knocked Indy out of the top spot at the box office, this past weekend. I mean, SATC has LEGIONS of fans… young, old, men, women, people of all nationalities. Most straight guys won’t readily admit that they watch SATC when it re-runs on TBS, or if their girlfriends are out for the night, and there’s a SATC DVD lying there…they totally watch it!!! Seriously. I’ve witnessed this.

I, unfortunately, was ridiculously sick this weekend, but decided to attend a 10:40 AM showing of “SATC” and it was PACKED and SOLD OUT. I went solo because none of my friends wanted to go, and sat next to a woman in her 60’s and a group of ladies in their 30’s. (One of them had a flask…um..it was 10:40 AM, but hey, I don’t judge)
It was super fun, frivolous, and a bit more serious than the TV episodes. It dealt more with love, loss, and forgiveness. I’m not so sure that I believe in that frivolous type of love actually. I always thought that Carrie had a love affair with New York City which is an organism in itself. Its a place where you go not just for “Labels” and “Love,” but you go to experience a place that’s always alive, diverse, open-minded, and culturally resonant.

You can always tell the NYU freshmen that show up in their Abercrombie outfits, and then a year later, they’re rocking Marc Jacobs or the latest designer threads, or in my case, H&M ( I love that place!) Sex and the City was always about the girls’ love affair with New York City, because once you’ve lived there…you always compare the next place to NYC. SIGH.
Anyway… I came across this interesting article in NY Mag called, “What I Ate for Breakfast,” and loved it.

During college, we’d hoard cereal from the dining hall for study nourishment, and to this day, breakfast food is still my favorite, probably because you can’t ruin it no matter how hard you try. :)

Justin Nozuka…talented, young song-writer

I was listening to the radio the other day and this song, “After Tonight,” caught my attention.
The DJ says it was some kid named Justin Nozuka. What a sweet, folksy voice. If you guys are into teen dramas, he was also on “Degrassi.”

To the Troops Who Have Fought to Keep Our Nation Free…

This song, “America the Beautiful,” by Ray Charles makes me shiver everytime I hear it.
It reminds me of elementary school assemblies, drinking lemonade at family barbeques, going to Little League games, and all the aspects of life that were purer and less complicated than they are now.

Hope that everyone had a sun-filled, bbq-eating, great Memorial Day!
