Protecting Your Dream and Knowing what to Chill-Ax
Hope you’re all having a good Sunday. I’ve been so stressed the past two weeks and it was such a welcome relief this weekend to just chill and relax or Chillax. (Someone randomly said this word to me and it has since entered by vocabulary) Me and a bunch of friends did karaoke and went dancing. AWESOME. That’s all you really need to get away. Good music and your true friends.
When I first started pursuing my goals in NYC and now here in LA, writing my feature screenplays and TV specs and auditioning, I usually felt alone and pretty much like a freak. My acquaintances would say,
“You must be kidding.“
“You have no connections in the biz.”
“You’re Asian. You’ll never make it unless you play kung fu or Asian hostess roles.” and the list goes on…. And here’s a Ploomy article I did with more info:
But for some reason, I kept going and just listened to my inner voice that said,
“Who cares what they think? I mean, this is my life. Not theirs.”
I believe that every person in this earth has talents and gifts, but not everyone chooses to use them. I’m definitely not the only one that has doubted my choices and path taken, but having talent without doing the work and being persistent, is useless. You have to find what you bring to the table that is unique and different, and never let anyone bring you down.
Protect your dream. Accept only CONSTRUCTIVE criticism. Otherwise, just brush it off. You’re the only one who has to look at yourself in the mirror every morning. No one else. And here’s a scene for “Pursuit of Happyness,” that helps me whenever I feel down.
Peace Out,
Kat
