Linked In, The Shield, and Mercy Ministries
Hey all, hope that you’re enjoying this Sunday, and gearing up for another work week. (Gosh, I sound so cheesy sometimes. My bad) Just wanted to link a couple of interesting articles, and also wanted to plug this amazing Non-profit called “Mercy Ministries” after the founder, Nancy Alcorn, spoke at my church today. Mercy Ministries reaches out to young women who’ve experienced life-debilitating circumstances, free of charge, and gives them the tools to find their self-worth and reach their full potential.
Being a teenage girl is not easy. I remember being super awkward, never fitting in, and burying my nose in my books, or throwing my energy into sports. (Though I was mostly JV) It affected me so much that I wrote a feature-length screenplay based on this foray into sports during my teen years. But I can’t really compare my experiences with those that some of these young women have gone through/are going through. Programs such as these are truly inspirational for all those young people out there who feel like they don’t have anyone else to turn to, and if you’re looking for help or even just to find an organization that you’d like to donate to, please check them out.
Okay, now for the news. Short little piece about Hollywood and LinkedIn. I loved Linkedin. Shout-out to Anthony, who I met via Linked in who also toes the line between Hollywood and Tech. Very cool.
And check out this article about Shawn Ryan, the creator of FX’s “The Shield.” He speaks of the upcoming/last season of the Shield, the difficulties he faced during the Writer’s strike, and also seems pretty humble while doing it. That’s hot.
I auditioned for “The Shield,” last year and made it to producer’s call-backs, which is nerve-wracking especially if you’re preparing to audition for a really emotional scene, and then you’re in the room with 2 other potential girls. Usually, this is why I need my i-pod with me at all times, so I can blast some 2pac which strangely calms me down more than anything.
Wow. This was a long post. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday.
Peace Out,
Kat

Mercy is not a good organization. It performs exorcisms on mentally ill young woman. Just thought you might want to know. Look up the wikipedia entry on it.
