Developers and AP Physics

Its Friday. Yay. So, I’m not sure that you read this LA Times article last weekend entitled, “MySpace gets its mojo back by opening the door to developers.”

If not, you should check it out and it basically reiterates the importance of developers in technology. Duh. Yeah, I know. Anyway, I had this dream that I was a developer and completely understood coding, ASP.net, C#, and other computer languages. It was weird and surreal because I was in a technology meeting and completely understood everything that everyone was saying. Because you see, in real life, I look at such codes and feel as though I’m looking at a mix of Greek, Mandarin, and pig latin all mixed into one.

This is exactly how I felt in high school AP Physics, which I was FORCED to take by my guidance counselor who wisely told me, “If you don’t take AP Physics, you won’t get into a good college.”
(FYI, Mrs. ________, I really hope that you’re not doling out this advice anymore to your students)
I was surrounded by a bunch of kids who completely understood Physics, while I would sit there and try to process everything after Force= Mass x Acceleration.

My teacher’s face would fall every time I’d approach him after class. Here’s what our conversation was like.
INT. AP PHYSICS- DAY

The class slowly empties. I approach my AP Physics teacher who is quickly trying to leave the classroom.

ME: Wait, do you have a second?

AP PHYSICS TEACHER: Um, Sure, but I have to actually go to the teachers’ lounge for a meeting. Can this wait until tomorrow?

ME: Well, I was going to ask if I could stay after school because you see, I have a ton of questions, because I don’t really understand the homework, or Chapters 1-3. Or the worksheets.

His face FALLS.
AP PHYSICS TEACHER: : Okay, take out your book.

ME: Thanks!!!

Secretly, he wanted to strangle me, I’m sure.

Multi-Racial in America

You should watch this series called “Multi-Racial in America”
I can totally relate to the whole…feeling like an outsider aspect. My cousins’ children are bi-racial and are possibly the cutest kids I’ve ever seen.

This series brings up a true point that our global society will look more and more multi-racial as the years go on. I guess my point is that (Okay, here comes my cheesy self) its what’s inside that counts. (Yeah, cue the corny sitcom music)

Audition in LA…driving…driving…and driving…

Gotta love Wednesday. You’re thinking…two more days until you can say its the weekend.
Anyway, so I had an audition today for an Un-Named NBC Show and spent most of my time in the car to get to the casting office.

Its weird b/c auditioning in NYC, you need to filler time just in case the following happens
1) The N/R/1/2/9 trains aren’t running on schedule
2) Its raining and you’re on 35th St/9th Ave and you need to be on 14th St/6th Ave in 10 minutes.
You think: Should I attempt to get a cab and just get poured on or should I try to take the Express N/R and see if I can make it? Getting a cab in NYC on a rainy day? Yeah right. Nice try.
3) You think about possibly power-walking to your destination. Hey, miracles do happen
4) A policeman on a horse strolls by and you think, “Should I make up some crazy story so he can take me to 14th St/6th Ave?”

In LA…
1) You need filler time just in case there’s traffic.
2) Traffic. Traffic. Traffic.
3) Make sure you have good music to listen to. After being spoiled by youtube, its difficult to listen to regular radio.
4) Don’t apply makeup in the car. Unless you’ve parked. Seriously.

Well…I’ll let ya know if anything happens with the role. The good thing is that I made the “People in the casting office” laugh. Perhaps they were laughing AT me. But hey, I’ll take it.

Justin Nozuka…talented, young song-writer

I was listening to the radio the other day and this song, “After Tonight,” caught my attention.
The DJ says it was some kid named Justin Nozuka. What a sweet, folksy voice. If you guys are into teen dramas, he was also on “Degrassi.”

Some Notable Charities and Non-Profits…

Due to my laziness, I haven’t been posting a ton, but I promise to remedy that this week.
In the meantime, here are some of charities/non-profits that I’m all about, so if you feel the need to give, here are a few notable ones.

To the Troops Who Have Fought to Keep Our Nation Free…

This song, “America the Beautiful,” by Ray Charles makes me shiver everytime I hear it.
It reminds me of elementary school assemblies, drinking lemonade at family barbeques, going to Little League games, and all the aspects of life that were purer and less complicated than they are now.

Hope that everyone had a sun-filled, bbq-eating, great Memorial Day!

Bad Dates…and ESPN

Probably due to the exorbitant gas prices in LA and the rest of the U.S., I’m not going on some really bad-ass road trip or a taking to flight to Costa Rica. :(

But I am doing some work right now on this strangely cold Saturday afternoon, and of course, needed to do some random Internet surfing. I always feel like I read the same articles about the following topics.

1) Something health advice that I’ve read about a million times
2) The latest Biz/Tech headlines which tends to depress me
3) The same exact relationship advice that’s just worded/packaged differently
4) Something really gossipy and random about the latest celeb escapades… (You just can’t look away)

So, I came across the MSN article called “5 Dates No Guy Wants to Go On,” The way to actually make a guy go shopping with you is to just say that you need to pick something up from one store, then keep the conversation going about topics that guys’ like to discuss, and before you know you it, you’ll have hit 5-10 shops. (This doensn’t ALWAYS work, but it has a high success rate)

The description of the “Opera” bad date was pretty funny. That’s definitely a scene in a sitcom.
Girl meets boy. Chemistry. Girl dates boy. Girl wants boy to go to the opera with her. Boy cringes but concedes. Girl and boy go to the Opera. She cries and is emotionally moved. Boy wonders why the fat lady is singing and wants to go home to watch Sportscenter. Girl asks boy if he loved the opera.
Boy says it was the most moving thing he’s seen in his life.

Oh yeah, go Lakers!!

So, A Little Shameless Self-Promotion Here…but I’m Ploomy Girl #3

Hey All, So, I kind of look like a freak in some of these photos, but I thought I’d share an interview that I did with Ploomy.com, a site that states that they tell guys, “What they need to know.”

The most tech-iest thing was that our whole interview was done via G-chat. Gotta love technology.
Holla.

Randy Pausch… What Matters Most in Life

I came across this article about Randy Pausch, the Carnegie Mellon professor who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and found out that he had less than 6 months to live.

I think a majority of us would’ve been thrown into the depths of despair (dramatic wording, I know), or gone down the path of negativity, but this guy just did the opposite.

When faced with death, he chose to see the light. Wow. I’m not sure I’d be as courageous.
Here’s to you, Randy, for inspiring others and showing people that the most important things in life have no numerical value.

Eggs…Over Easy

I was watching the news this morning while on the treadmill, and saw this video which was played over and over again. I burst out laughing and almost fell off the treadmill. :(
Just thought I’d post the video of Steve Ballmer in Hungary, ducking just in time, not to be egged.
